Your Retreat
Writing with Zen provides a calm space for you to reflect on your motivation and value as a writer while building personal strengths to reach your writing goals.
Our retreat stands out by combining positive psychology coaching with Zen practices like yoga and meditation. This helps you understand the meaning and value of your writing, recognise your strengths, and build resilience. We focus on creating realistic action plans and time strategies for a sustainable Zen writing state.
Over the three days Retreat, you'll start with gentle yoga and meditation led by Corine. Then, Yi-Ling will guide group coaching sessions on various writing topics, including exploring your writer identity, finding your strengths, and developing coping strategies. You'll also have a 1-on-1 coaching session with Yi-Ling to work on your personal writing strategy and plan.​​​​​
Your Hosts
Dr Yi-Ling
Award-winning academic writer and coach
Dr. Yi-Ling Lai has a PhD in Occupational Psychology and is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Yi-Ling has over 10 years of experience in coaching to improve work motivation, resilience, and well-being. She has published 15 journal articles, 8 book chapters, and edited a book, all while raising her three-year-old child. Yi-Ling specialises in helping writers enhance their motivation and resilience. She develops coaching sessions based on her research to help writers engage with their intrinsic motivation and values and develop effective coping mechanisms.

Day 2: Coping with critical reviews (integrating with emotions, breathing exercises and mindfulness for writers)
Day 3: Developing your personal writing strategy with realistic plans.
Individual coaching session: Discovering individual challenges and strengths in the writing process.

Corine
Yoga & Mindfulness Instructor
Corine is a dedicated Yoga Instructor specialising in gentle, relaxing yoga designed to nurture both body and mind. With her soothing approach, she creates a tranquil space where guests can unwind and find their inner calm.
Corine’s classes focus on deep relaxation and mindful movement, which help to release stress and enhance a peaceful state of mind. By integrating these calming practices into the retreat, Corine sets the stage for guests to open their creative minds.
Her gentle yoga sessions not only enhance physical well-being but also encourage mental clarity, helping guests to tap into their creativity and inspire their writing. With Corine's guidance, you'll enjoy a balance of relaxation and creativity, setting you up to explore and express your ideas more freely.

A haven for creative minds, Gambledown Farm is set across 270 acres of rural Hampshire, bordering the New Forest.
For two nights, on the 30th & 31st December, you will be staying in the modern, newly converted, luxury barns.
Each bedroom has its own bathroom and a living/kitchen space with a fire place and underfloor heating.
Gambledown Farm is the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the countryside. A perfect backdrop for a yoga retreat, allowing you to relax and reconnect.
